Kish Island Linux User Group (KishLUG) which is supervised by the Open Systems Research Lab (OSRL) was established in October 2008 (Mehr 1387 on Jalali calendar) by Dr. Mohammad Khansari (Former Director of Iran National Free/Open Source Software Project a.k.a Farsi Linux) who is currently the head of the Information technology faculty at Iran Telecommunication Research Center (ITRC) and a number of his interested students, Amir H. Moin (former KishLUG coordinator), Hamid Farhadi, Mir Hossein Hosseinioun, Iman Khalkhali, and Mohammad Farahani. Due to the decision of its managers for taking part in the process of development of Kish Island into an e-city, the scope of its activity expanded to the whole beautiful Island of Persian Gulf and adjacent areas.

Currently, most of the KishLUG activities are done via the Internet, over our mailing list (general -AT- lists (d0t) kishlug (dot) ir), Wiki, etc.

Current coordinator and contact person: Mehdi Toudeh Roosta (mtr -AT- kishlug (dot) ir)

Dear visitors, To request a user account for this Wiki please send an email to admin -AT- kishlug (dot) ir. There are a number of FOSS research projects under development in KishLUG. Our members are going to provide a documentation in order to both facilitate their own contribution in the project for future references and also give others the opportunity to use their results and possibly continue their work.

Switching and Migrating from Microsoft Windows to GNU/Linux

Switching and Migrating from Microsoft Windows to GNU/Linux by Iman Khalkhali and Ahmad Dayanati and anyone who is interested and want to be involved!

For this project; already have been planned for three phases. These phases are going to lead us both for switching and migrating from Microsoft Windows to GNU/Linux through working and being familiar with Free and Open Source Soft-ware(FOSS) (finding the related equivalent tantamount software on MS Windows and Linux distributions.

In the primary phase there are 77 tables categories of different software have been drew. But these tables may be varied later, because there are so many tables which have not been drew yet.You can find the list of available categories on the below link:

http://wiki.kishlug.ir/index.php/List_of_software_categories

In each table there are some equivalent which are marked as a hyperlink, you can click on the name of related equivalent software and it will lead you to another page, which may contain many sections such as:

about the software, features of it, how to download it, manuals and guides(how to use and install it), comparing it to, pros and cons of it, related official websites, wikies and forums and references.

Not done yet, with your help we can provide enormous and comprehensive list of equivalent software to be installed and used both on Microsoft Windows and Linux distributions.
